International SATERN SSB Net QSY (Source: @ARRL )

International SATERN SSB Net Manager Ken Gilliland, AG6SV, has announced that starting immediately, the net will meet at the normal times on or near 14.312 MHz.

The net's usual frequency is 14.265, but an Islands on the Air (IOTA) DXpedition to Guinea-Bisseau November 13-25 is transmitting on 14.260 MHz and listening up 5 to 10 kHz, making 14.265 MHz unusable.

During the SKYWARN Special Event, ham radio operators will set up stations at National Weather Service (NWS) offices and contact other radio amateurs around the world.

American Red Cross Asks ARRL’s Assistance with Puerto Rico Relief Effort

The American Red Cross (ARC) has asked the ARRL for assistance with relief efforts in Puerto Rico. ARC needs up to 50 radio amateurs who can help record, enter, and submit disaster-survivor information into the ARC Safe and Well system. In the nearly 75-year relationship between ARRL and ARC, this is the first time such a request for assistance on this scale has been made.

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program is seeking proposals from US schools, museums, science centers, and community youth organizations to host Amateur Radio contacts in 2018 with a crew member aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The deadline to submit proposals is November 15. Contacts would be scheduled between July 1 and December 31, 2018.

Amateur Radio Emergency Net Active in Wake of Earthquake in Central Mexico

The FMRE National Emergency Net has activated on 7.060 MHz following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in the central Mexico state of Puebla at 1814 UTC on Tuesday. The net also uses 3.690 MHz and 14.120 MHz as well as IRLP reflector 9200, channel 08.

FMRE National Emergency Net Active in Mexico

In view of the arrival of Hurricane Max on the coast of Guerrero, Mexico, the FMRE National Emergency Net has activated as of 1300 local time. The net requests support from stations with the ability to handle traffic requests and emergency warnings. The net is operating on 7.060 MHz and 14.120 MHz as well as via IRLP reflector 9200, channel 08.

Space Weather Prediction Center Upgrades Geomagnetic Storm Watch to G3 (Strong)

NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has upgraded its geomagnetic storm watch for today and tomorrow (September 6 and 7) to G3 (Strong).

"The G3 Watch is in anticipation of the expected arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME) that took place in association with an M5 flare," the SWPC said.

Hurricane Watch Net to Activate for Hurricane Irma

The Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) has announced plans to activate for the now-Category 4 Hurricane Irma on Tuesday, September 5, at 1800 UTC on 14.325 MHz. 

The net will remain in continuous operation until further notice, continuing on 20 meters for as long as propagation allows, then switching to 40 meters, 7.268 MHz.

JULY.03 (Montgomery Co, PA) 14:00 NET: Limerick Generating Station SIREN TEST

Montgomery Co. PA ARES/RACES (MCAR) will be conducting a net at 14:00 (Eastern Time) today to accept reports on the Limerick Generating Station Siren Test.

Today's test is what is known as a "growl" test where the sirens are activated and immediately shut-down. Unless you are very close to a siren you will not hear this type of test.

HAM radio operators are invited to report their location and whether they heard the activation at 14:00 hrs. (2 pm) today.
