I'd like to answer Field Day CQ's just for fun and radio time but have no interest in serious competition or logging. Is it detrimental to those more serious if I do so, i.e. a waste of their time?

Held at Montgomery County Community College 7-9pm in College Hall
Icom America President Hiro Nakaoka, Nick Pennance, N1CKP (Icom America Vice President) and Naomichi Sawada, NC5W (Icom Senior Engineer) were all present for the entire event.
After the Pledge to Allegiance there were brief reports from committees
A stem-to-stern presentation of the ICOM 7300 features ..given by Will Jourdain AA4WJ (ICOM's "Amateur" Professional Sales Representative.)
A spirited and at times, passionate discussion ensued with regard to DStar vs Fusion repeater networks.
Also discussed was the cost for the new HAM to get into DStar as prohibitive. (I got my tech license just over 2 years ago, has anyone looked at the cost of a 10 meter rig lately? )
One participant asked, what about the young HAM that perhaps has a family and has to run all radio purchases past his wife? (OK so I'm 58, and I do have two boys 10 & 11 years old, but ouch...that last part sounded very familiar! )
@IcomAmericaInc Your Mt. Holly team is facing a tough crowd at the PDRA presentation but giving great answers... (hey ICOM check your Twitter account, I'm workin' it here..)
New HAMs and cost of equipment are recurring themes here this evening. (This is why I love when the newest, latest model of any radio I want is released ... it means there will be an influx of older models available on eBay).
At 8:40 the raffle was under way! (And I missed winning a new ICOM radio by two numbers, won by the guy standing right behind me in line when I bought my tickets.... so close)

More ISS ham radio activities! From 07:55 on May 10 until 10:05 UTC May 11 the ISS will be transmitting greetings for 30 sec in various languages and then 1 min pause to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Tomsk Polytechnic University on 437.025 MHz FM. The transmissions will be simulcast using ARISS equipment on 145.80 MHz FM. The messages will be "greetings to Earth inhabitants, recorded by students of the university in 10 languages: Russian, English, German, French, Chinese, Arabic, Tatar, Indian, Kazakh and Portuguese."
The main purpose of this event seems to be to test out the Tomsk-TPU-120 CubeSat made by students. The satellite transmits on 437.025 MHz FM and will be hooked up to an external antenna on the ISS and the onboard Kenwood TM-D700 will be configured to retransmit it on 145.800 MHz FM (crossband U/V repeat mode).
The satellite will be deployed in early 2017.
